Austin Christian Fellowship hosts Mega Camp Fun

Noodle soccer was a crowd pleasure at the 2018 Austin Christian Fellowship Mega Camp Fun.

Austin Christian Fellowship’s campus in River Place was transformed last week into a shipwreck scene as the church hosted its annual Mega Camp Fun.

The theme was “Shipwrecked: Rescued by Jesus.” Over 400 kids participated and over 200 student and adult volunteers helped during the June 25-29 event.

“The big idea was that no matter where we find ourselves in life: lonely, powerless, struggling, Jesus is always there to help us through life’s storms,” said Julie Washington, ACFkids pastor. “Such a great message in today’s world – we don’t have to do this life alone!”

Kids began and ended each day singing songs and dancing. Crafts included a nightlight lighthouse, a sea glass frame and a floating cork boat. Kids practiced Morse code and made their own super bubbles.

Each day, kids also participated in recreation games, heard a Bible story and watched video clips of actual kids in other parts of the world who have stepped in and made a difference in their own schools and neighborhoods.

In the missions rotation, kids learned what it means to go into the world to make a difference. They made wind chimes for residents of Lakeside apartments, made stuffed animals for Lift Brigade in Cedar Park, made journals for Community First! Village, and put together manipulative bags to be used by CPS caseworkers with incoming kids.

The kids also had a competition between boys and girls to see who could raise the most money. All money given was donated to Tri County Christian Services in Port Aransas to help buy a commercial freezer to serve Hurricane Harvey victims.

“It was an amazing week,” Washington said. “We are so thankful to have the opportunity to host so many Four Points kids at ACF this summer.”

Kids and volunteers enjoyed ACF’s Mega Camp Fun and crazy hair day on Monday, June 25.
