The Four Points Book Swap is kicking off this week at Cups & Cones at 2900 N. Quinlan Park Rd Suite 290. To participate, students should bring a gently used book to the designated Book Swap area and swap the book for another one.
The challenge is for each student to read at least six books. After the student successfully completes the challenge, he or she will receive an ice cream sundae, or non-dairy substitute, at Cups & Cones and be eligible to enter a drawing towin an iPad Mini. One winner will be announced on Saturday, August 16 at the annual Steiner Ranch Concert in the Park.
HCEF’s goal is to assist in developing a superior educational experience for students in the Four Points community.
“Even though summer is geared towards fun and relaxation, it can also be a time when students lose some literary ground. We’re excited to team up with Cups & Cones to offer additional resources and a little motivation to our student community,” said Michelle Beck, HCEF board member.
Kristi Lee-Nordin, owner of Cups & Cones said, “As LISD Superintendant Dr. Champion wrote in a recent edition of the Four Points News, ‘one of the most effective ways to prevent loss of academic skills over the summer is to keep students reading.’ Our goal is to enable students to access a wide selection of reading materials and complement the summer programs at our local school libraries.”
The Book Swap provides a nice supplement to the summer hours at the River Ridge Elementary and Four Points Middle School libraries. HCEF teams up with Leander ISD each summer to offer additional programming for our school libraries as well as volunteers. Visit www.HillCountryEdFoundation.org for the library schedule.
