ViperBots win UIL 5A/6A State Championships

Three Vandegrift ViperBots robotics teams won the state championships in the FIRST Tech Challenge division:7161 Hydra, 6299 QuadX and 4545 Ouroboros.

“We won state for the FTC Division,” said Rad Allen, VHS ViperBots advisor and computer science teacher.

The Winning Alliance Captain went to Westlake HS, Winning Alliance 1st Pick to Vandegrift, and the Winning Alliance 2nd Pick – Leander ISD’s Vista Ridge HS.

The ViperBots team in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) was 6800 Valor.

“Our FRC team also competed in the UIL Champs and finished as the 5th place alliance for the FRC Division,”

For the past three years, Robotics has been a pilot program for the UIL. This is the first year that robotics is an official UIL activity and receives points towards the Lone Star Cup.

This 2019 designation is the second Robotics State Championship for Vandegrift. The school was named state champions in 2016 as a pilot, and was a runner up in both 2017 and 2018 during the pilot years.

The ViperBots competes next at the World Championships.

“We have four teams that have qualified, three FTC teams and our FRC team,” Allen said. “Go Vipers!”
