From APD released June 11, 20201
The Austin Police Department (APD) is proud to recognize APD Lake Patrol Officers Bradley Smith, Mark Bozyk and Jesus Perez for rescuing four boaters who almost went over the Longhorn Dam (at Lady Bird Lake) on Thursday, June 10, 2021 near N. Pleasant Valley Rd.

APD received an emergency call indicating that a small recreational boat with several people aboard had been pinned up against the open Longhorn Dam spillway. The boat was hanging halfway over the spillway, appeared not to be able to move and was in danger of going over the dam. The boat rental company responded to help with a boat and while they were able to tie the two boats together, the second boat was not powerful enough to pull the first boat from the spillway. APD Lake Patrol Officers Smith, Bozyk and Perez quickly responded to the scene, tied up to the rental company’s boat and pulled both boats away from the dam and out of danger. No injuries were reported.

Austin-Travis County EMS and AFD also responded to the scene to assist. We appreciate the partnership and collaborative efforts on critical incidents like this.
