CRMS 6th grade remote learning due to COVID

Starting this week, Leander ISD moved Canyon Ridge Middle School’s 6th grade level to remote learning due to COVID-19 clusters. CRMS joins another LISD middle school, Wiley, and seven elementary schools in temporary remote learning for 10 days.

CRMS had 15 confirmed COVID-19 cases last week with 13 of the total Canyon Ridge cases being among sixth graders. The announcement to go remote was made on August 27.

The district notifies LISD families affected by classroom COVID clusters. This is a new protocol for the district.

“Keeping schools open for in-person learning provides essential services and the best classroom experience for students,” said LISD Superintendent Bruce Gearing last week.

LISD says that instruction will be provided virtually for students affected by the clusters according to Texas Education Agency’s remote learning option.

According to LISD, there is a difference between virtual learning and remote conferencing. Remote conferencing happens live, and districts can still receive funding while doing it, but it is limited to 20 days for the school year per student.

CBS Austin states: grades moving to remote conferencing will only be able to do this one more time this entire school year, before the district either loses funding for the students by sending them home or just keeps letting kids come to school.
