A Message from Principals Charlie Little & Steve Crawford on May 12:

Good Morning to our Vandegrift High School and Four Points Middle School communities,

The safety and security of all students is our top priority. With that in mind, I’m writing to inform you that Travis County Sheriff’s Office is working with our campus administrators to investigate a report of a student bringing a gun to campus.

Wednesday during after-school hours, several students at Vandegrift High School reported seeing a group of Four Points Middle School students on campus, one of whom observed the student displaying the gun in a non-threatening manner to the students that accompanied him. A report was made to authorities last night. The investigation and video surveillance confirmed the student was on campus with a handgun-shaped object.

Based on the available information, we do not believe the student was on campus with intent to harm a VHS student or staff member. We believe the student was attempting to get a ride home on the high school buses.

At this time, we don’t want to impede the active, on-going investigation by providing unsubstantiated details. As a precaution, additional law enforcement presence has been established on both campuses while this investigation continues. We will share additional information as it becomes available.

We work closely with our students, staff, and parents to listen and investigate any information regarding the security of our school. Working with our School Resource Officer and local law enforcement, we are committed to notifying our staff and families of any verified or imminent threat to campus safety. In the case of an emergency, we will immediately ensure the safety of our students and staff, then notify all of our parents and employees through various channels as necessary.

As always, we encourage parents and students to report any information regarding school safety. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the front office. Thank you for your continued support of Vandegrift High School and Four Points Middle School.

Thank you,
