Students at Grandview Hills Elementary collectively read more than 38,000 minutes and raised over $12,000 to support teacher grants, field trips, classroom supplies, and other essential programs on campus during the GHE Readathon.
This year’s 2-week event included several special literacy experiences for students. Through the Book Days Program, the school received a memorable visit from Pete the Cat, bringing excitement and smiles throughout the school. Students also had the chance to meet author and former National Football League Pro-Bowler Derrick Johnson, who spoke powerfully about the importance of reading and staying committed to school — a message that resonated deeply with families and students across this Title I campus.
Families were also invited to join an Eagle Evening, where students and their caregivers came to school in pajamas to read together. The turnout was strong, offering a heartwarming display of the community’s dedication to literacy and shared learning.
A special spotlight goes to the school’s top earners of the Readathon— Valencia Y., Tony Y., Hadley D., Finley D., and Daniel F. — whose efforts helped lead the fundraising success.
Additional standout achievements for the campus include:
- Most Minutes Read – Class: Mrs. Weaver’s Kindergarten class, with 8,210 minutes
- Most Minutes Read – Grade Level: 3rd Grade, logging 13,657 minutes
- Most Funds Raised – Grade Level: 5th Grade, bringing in over $3,500 — a particularly meaningful milestone for the Title I campus
Nine students surpassed the impressive benchmark of 1,000 individual reading minutes:
- Quinn M. – 2,299 minutes
- Zulei L. – 2,185 minutes
- Valencia Y. – 1,628 minutes
- Bennett G. – 1,461 minutes
- Tony Y. – 1,340 minutes
- Ella B. – 1,335 minutes
- Ruqaya B. – 1,225 minutes
- Hudson J. – 1,065 minutes
- Ayden B. – 1,050 minutes
These accomplishments reflect the dedication of Grandview Hills students, the commitment of their families, and the strength of a community that continues to champion literacy and learning.
