Vandegrift moving up to 6A, Vipers to face tougher competition next year

Vandegrift, Vista Ridge and Leander high schools will each move up to class 6A for the upcoming 2016-17 school year based on the recently-released and highly-anticipated reclassification and realignment numbers by the University Interscholastic League.

The UIL realigns every two years based on school enrollment numbers. Only the largest high schools in the state, with an enrollment of 2,150 and above, are ranked 6A. VHS’s enrollment is 2,255. A school’s class determines which teams it will compete against in both athletic and fine arts competitions.LISD chart Continue reading

Lake Travis is 88 percent full, Is Austin still in a drought?

With the help of recent rains, Lake Travis has risen from below 35 percent to 88 percent full so far this year, but officials are slow to say the drought it over.

“The forecast says El Niño will continue to have a rainy impact on our weather pattern this fall and winter, and we are hopeful we may be finally be seeing the end of this drought,” said Clara Tuma, LCRA spokesperson. Continue reading

The last time Vandegrift and Vista Ridge met on the football field, the game was one of the most thrilling of the season. Vista Ridge took an early lead — going up by four touchdowns — before Vandegrift turned the tide with a solid second-half defensive performance and pulled out a 63-55 victory in Week 7.

The two teams combined for 118 total points and 1,179 yards of offense. And nothing in the first three playoff games would indicate anything less than another offensive slugfest. Continue reading

FPMS’ Majestics featured in Macy’s Parade

The Four Points Middle School Majestics dance team was part of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade where long rehearsals and dedication paid off.

Thirty four Majestics made the trip to New York City over the Thanksgiving break.

Vipers win tough battle with Edinburg Vela

Those were the first words Vandegrift offensive coordinator Blake Mouser had for the Vipers after a thrilling — and challenging — 49-39 victory over Edinburg Vela last Friday.
