Four Points News
Two men were arrested at a public park in Leander this month during separate incidents set up by police to catch online child predators.
According to official documents, Johnny Cummings of Round Rock was arrested and charged with soliciting a minor online for sex on July 18 when he arrived at a sports field in Leander expecting to meet what he thought was a 14-year-old girl.
Police had corresponded with Cummings, 44, over a period of several weeks, during which Cummings allegedly sent numerous sexually explicit messages. According to the affidavit, Cummings admitted to sexually explicit correspondence with a person he beleived to be a 14-year-old girl.

Police records indicate the same officers were involved in Scott’s arrest, and that the same sting operation was used to ensnare the second man.  Continue reading

3M supports road to Vandegrift, local lawmakers support its safety

Four Points News

Leander Independent School District received a copy of an official letter recently supporting their cause for an access road to Vandegrift High School according to the Four Points Traffic Committee.

The letter, dated June 27, was written by executives from 3M and whose property adjoins the area in question and was directed to members of the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan Coordinating Committee. This committee is headed by the mayor and several commissioners.

“Leander ISD is in receipt of a letter from 3M to Commissioner Daugherty and Mayor Leffingwell supporting our plans and advising no other solution exists,” the FPTC said in a statement.

“This was an important endorsement to receive and the Traffic Committee thanks 3M for supporting our plans and being our partner.”

The FPTC is “committed to protecting our community, our students, and our environment” by planning and building a secondary access road from Vandegrift HS and Four Points MS campus to the intersection of River Place Boulevard and Four Points Drive.

The committee says the access road would divert some of the 6,000 trips a day from RM 2222 and McNeil Drive and provide essential emergency access and a secondary evacuation route.

Power boat crashes into sailboat, Driver flees Lake Travis accident

By LYNETTE HAALAND, Four Points News

On Saturday, a Steiner Ranch resident and a friend went out for an evening sail on Lake Travis. The night ended with a power boat crashing into their sailboat and the power boat driver docking and fleeing the scene on foot.

The Steiner sailboat owner put the jib up in almost no wind. Before putting up the main the two, who wished to remain anonymous, jumped in the lake to cool off while staying close to the boat.

Minutes later, they noticed a Formula 34 cruiser power boat with lots of passengers steaming along at what was later estimated at 20 to 25 knots and heading right for them.

Four Points H-E-B’s freezers are fixed

From Xavier Vasquez, Unit Director at Four Points H-E-B

Update as of Fri., July 19 @ 7:45 a.m.

I’m happy to report that as of this morning (Friday) we are well underway to restocking ALL of our frozen merchandise! Last night we have an army of H-E-B Partners (many from other stores) help us stock two trailers of frozen merchandise. We are currently reordering merchandise that did not come in. Today we will also see vendors restock their frozen merchandise as well.

So, after a very long week and a half we are happy to report that we are just about back to normal business. We are very grateful for everyone’s patience throughout this unprecedented event.

Update as of Wed., July 17 @ 6 p.m.

We want to again thank our friends and our community for their continued support.  As of this afternoon we are still without use of all our frozen cases.  However, we are at a point of testing and tweaking the system repairs and expect to have use of all frozen cases by late Thursday evening.  If all goes well we expect to be back in stock on all frozen merchandise by Saturday morning.  Your “4-Points” H-E-B family and friends appreciate the opportunity to serve our community.

Update as of Tues., July 16 @ 6:45 a.m.

In short, there is no change in status. We still do not have any of our frozen cases up and running. The rain caused a slow-down on progress yesterday but we have crews on sight doing all they can to get us back on track.

All other departments are up and running. Bakery is improving in-stocks as the days progress.

We want to thank our friends in the community who continue to support us. We saw many of them return to our store for their shopping needs on Sunday and Monday. Our 4-points H-E-B family was very glad to see them. And we are looking forward to seeing them soon again!
