While it can be said that every game is important, late-season matchups often have significant implications for teams hoping to reach the postseason.

This week’s meeting with Hays is no different. This is the last game of the regular season for the Rebels, who come in with a 2-3 mark in district play. The Rebels need to win on Friday to keep their playoff hopes alive. A loss doesn’t necessarily doom the Rebels, but it does mean the Rebels could end up in a tie for the fourth playoff spot with Vista Ridge and Leander.   Continue reading

LWBE, RPE, RRE and SRE host fall festivals

Local elementary schools hosted festivals on Friday drawing hundreds of families for games, fun and food.

River Ridge Elementary hosted Rattler Fest, Laura W. Bush Elementary hosted Fall Fest, Steiner Ranch Elementary hosted State Fair and River Place Elementary hosted its 10 year anniversary and festival. Grandview Hills Elementary will host its Costume Ball on Friday, Oct. 28.

River Place girl scouts raise funds and awareness for schoolmate who has childhood leukemia.

At the River Place Elementary Ten Year Celebration on Oct. 21, enterprising girl scouts from Troop 288 took advantage of the opportunity to get in front of their peers and create awareness for the life-saving role blood donations play in all types of critical care diseases, including childhood leukemia.

Kerry Grimes, Steiner Ranch resident, and Wayne Brooks, former chef at the University of Texas Golf Club, opened 827Ray’s Kitchen + Cellar on Aug. 27.

827-ray-logo827Ray’s, located at 3519 RM 620, has already gotten a nod from USA Today Eats as “Austin’s latest hot spot”. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week and has brunch on Sundays.

The new restaurant has farm fresh and French infused seasonally inspired cuisine, said Brooks.

And it has a relaxed yet elegant atmosphere, added Grimes.

Randalls Steiner Ranch has had a steady volume of early voting since the polling place opened at 7 a.m. on Oct. 24. By the end of the first day of early voting, 1,171 voters had cast their ballots at Randalls which contributed to the 32,732 total people who voted in Travis County on Monday.

That’s nearly double the first day of early voting in 2012, and close to the 33,354 who voted on the first day of 2008, when President Barack Obama was first elected, according to the Austin American-Statesman.
