Vandgrift Assistant Principal Tiffany Phelps and her children, Bryson, 5, and Brooklyn, 23 months, are grieving the death of their husband and father, Courtney, after his unexpected death last week at the age of 37.

Courtney, who was visiting family in San Antonio on Aug. 23, complained he wasn’t feeling well and decided to take a nap. He died in his sleep.

Unbeknownst to anyone, Courtney’s heart was almost twice the size of an average man, which ultimately led to its failure, his obituary stated from Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.

“It’s quite ironic that the very heart that touched so many people would ultimately take his life,” his obituary went on to state. “Anyone who knew Courtney would describe him as being incredibly kind, generous and loving. Courtney was a great man, large in stature and with an enormous heart, both literally and figuratively.”

A new wellness service offering intravenously delivered vitamin therapy recently opened in the Medical Tower at Riverplace.

Owned by Adam Metcalf, pharmacist and owner of Hill Country Apothecary, Drip Drop is an IV vitamin bar offering vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and amino acids through IV infusion.

IV infusion introduces the specially mixed solutions directly into the client’s bloodstream, unlike oral vitamins that pass through the digestive system. The IV treatments have a 90 percent absorption rate, according to the Drip Drop website.

“A wide variety of individuals benefit from IV vitamin therapy including athletes, parents, general health and wellness enthusiasts, professionals, everyday folks that are engaged in daily activity and want a vitamin boost,” said Shannon Cohen, wellness program coordinator and consultant.

Drip Drop services does not include medical diagnoses or treatments.

A new private elementary and middle school called 4Points Academy will open on Sept. 6 at the IQuest Enrichment Center in Quinlan Crossing by a Steiner Ranch couple.

Its three-part mission is to provide a robust academic curriculum with small class sizes, full integration of technology and teacher-guided instruction that meets and enhances each child’s academic abilities.

School founders Eustace and Nesia Isidore have lived in Four Points for more than 12 years, first in River Place and now in Steiner. They have two children, a 4th grader and 7-year-old, Etienne, and a 1st grader and 5-year-old, Naome.

The couple is “passionate” about education, said Eustace, who has taught 7th grade and, in college, tutored math and chemistry students. He is now a patent attorney with an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering. Continue reading →

Austin Baptist Church will open its 33,686-square-foot, two-story education building on Aug. 28. The expansion is a result of growth and future growth projections.

The building provides 17,847-square-feet on the first floor for 13 children’s rooms and children’s worship space. The second floor will house a dozen adult classrooms in 15,839-square-feet.

Opening of the education building, marks completion of the first phase of ABC’s expansion. The next phase, a building to be named Heritage Hall, is currently underway and scheduled to open in February.

Last October, the church broke ground on its 35-acre property with plans to add more than 52,000-square-feet of structural space, complementing its original 81,660-square-foot building.
