Feb. 21 at 8:20 AM Kristen Dark, Travis Co. Sheriff's Office public information officer: Last night at approximately 8:30 pm our SWAT team responded to a disturbance in the 3700 block of Runnels Ct. One party had exited the residence and another party was reportedly still inside and armed. Once SWAT was able to make entry into the home and assess the situation, the nature of the call changed to deceased person. Detectives are currently investigating the death in conjunction with the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The SWAT team situation has been going on for several hours and Kristen Dark, spokesperson of the Travis County Sheriff's Office, said she does not think this situation will go on much longer. TCSO responded to a disturbance and it is an isolated incident, Dark said. She could not confirm if there have been gunshots at this point.

Captain Darren Noak with Austin-Travis Co. EMS said they are on the scene to support the Travis County Sheriff's Office in this event. They have one command unit, which is a larger support unit, and one ambulance in Steiner, Noak said. No transports at this time.

Police are reported to be on foot with dogs. Two police cars remain close to cul-de-sac, according to a nearby source.

Sporadic shots continue, according to several nearby residents.

Travis County PIO hasn't gotten back with Four Points News yet to share more details.

Cops shouting in the green belt behind John Simpson Park, one resident said. Someone said loud boom sounded like a transformer instead of gunshots. Anyone else know?

Lots of gunshots reported. Anyone else hear?

Command trailer pulled up. Sporadic gunshots are being heard by one resident.

Police officers continue to patrol around houses looking for someone, according to a resident.

Steiner is out of danger and the authorities need time to do their follow up. We also need to allow the family privacy and time to process all this. We can continue to pray for them.

It's now almost 4:30 pm and no update. Why?

I’m hearing more sirens

This was on Nextdoor: Hostage situation. Husband is holding his wife and 11 year old at gun point. 😢 Sending prayers for all.

What a terrible outcome. My heart hurts for that family.

Response from Sheriff on Twitter

This is really sad,it’s time for our community to get together and help, if anyone knows the family and when the right time comes please let me know how my family can help.

More sirens coming into Steiner

So 20+ hours later and nothing definitive about last night? Was there victim(s)? Who? Why?

Randy Smolen, why would that be funny?

May be a lot of misinformation here.

Just heard a loud bang. Praying it wasn’t a gunshot

You people realize you can follow without having to actually comment right? Not that difficult.

This happened in my section years ago was so scary prayers for all involved be safe

Helicopter and more sirens now...

Recap of the game that is sending the Vipers to Hearne tomorrow: In the immortal words of the late great Jim Valvano, “Survive and Advance.” That is precisely what the Vandegrift Boys Basketball team did with their bi-district win over Cypress Ranch 46-44 Tuesday night in College Station. The Vipers, hampered by foul trouble in the 3rd qtr, stepped up their defensive effort and continually thwarted attempts by Cy Ranch trying to take advantage while Vandegrift steal leader (Reese Watson) and rebound/block leader (Greg Brown) watched from the bench. The increased defensive effort propelled the Vipers into the 4th quarter and got some key defensive stops down the stretch to seal the victory. The Vipers length defensively really shined Tuesday as the Vipers recorded a total of 16 blocked shots on the night. Additionally, JR Gabe Rayer added some timely scoring in and around rim in a game where every point was valuable. Rayer had one of the biggest plays in the game late with an offensive rebound tip in a game that was tied with both teams trying to get something going. Rayer was the leading scorer for the vipers with 13 points on the night. Greg Brown, the Vipers leading scorer, had to watch from the sidelines for quite some time in foul trouble but finished the game still on the floor and ended with 12 points to go along with his 8 blocks. The win was Vandegrift’s 3rd bi-district title in school history (the 1st as a 6A program). Looking forward to the area round. The Vipers are headed back out on the road, this time to Hearne, TX where they will face off versus district 15-6A runner up Klein Collins Friday night at 7pm.
