Body recovered from Lake Travis identified

From Travis County Sheriff’s Office:

At 3:50 p.m. on May 3, 2020, deputies responded to a report of a distressed swimmer who had gone underwater and not resurfaced in Lake Travis at Muleshoe Bend Primitive Area (2819 CR 414). Several agencies including TCSO, Travis County Parks, Pedernales Fire Department and Starflight participated in rescue efforts which were ultimately unsuccessful.

At 4:29 p.m., rescue efforts shifted to recovery and at 5:18 p.m., the body was recovered when PFD was able to locate it via sonar in water approximately 7-10 feet deep.

The victim, Micheal Ihekwoaba, 23 of Austin was pronounced deceased at 5:21 p.m. (The spelling of the first name is correct.)

An investigation into the cause and manner of death is being conducted by TCSO and the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office.
