The Vandegrift varsity volleyball team lost Friday’s home playoff match against San Marcos by a score of 3-1.
The Lady Vipers beat the Rattlers in the first set but then San Marcos won three in a row (23-25, 27-25, 25-12, 27-25) at VHS on Nov. 20. It was part of the “2020 Volleyball State Championships – 2020 Volleyball 6A Regions 3 & 4” tournament.
“We finished the season 14-6 and District Champions of 25-6A,” said Melissa Southall, VHS volleyball head coach. “We lost to a very passionate and talented San Marcos team Friday night ending our season. The outcome doesn’t take away from all the accomplishments these girls had during this very difficult and chaotic year.”
The varsity players stayed safe the whole season through their social sacrifices.
“Due to injuries, a lot of our senior players made a huge impact on our success towards the end,” Southall said. Egadi Santos, Tiffani Luedke, Sydney Waltz and Audrey Green stepped up on the court with their experience and leadership, she added.
Southall said there’s a lot to look forward to next season with juniors Chloe Charles, Riley Weigelt, Ireland McCauley and Samantha Wunsch.
“So this week is about reflection and being thankful to have a season,” Southall said. “I’m very thankful for this group and they have a lot to be proud of.”
