Lake Travis Fire Fighters reported that a house fire on Saturday morning on River Bend Road, between Steiner Ranch and Lake Austin, was under control by afternoon.

Multiple engines and agencies responded to the fire reported at 12906 River Bend Rd. around 10 a.m. on Dec. 5.

It was posted on Facebook that the home of Vernon and Gretchen Spicer went up in flames. They got out safely and no injuries were reported at the time of this filing.

“Hayden was playing in the backyard when it started. Made sure Gretchen and Trip got out. Took fire department way too long to get there though,” was posted on Facebook.

The River Ridge area just outside of Steiner does not have many fire hydrants, according to one resident. Fire departments had to stretch hoses from a few blocks away.

Lake Travis Fire Fighters and Austin Fire Department responded to the fire.

Lake Travis FF@LTfirefighters tweeted around 11 a.m.: “Structure Fire 12900 Blk of River Bend. #LTFirefighters with @AustinFireInfo auto-aid crews assisting are reporting this fire is now under control. No reported injuries at this time.”

Neighbor Kathy Wells is organizing a fundraiser on GoFundMe entitled “Spicer House Fire“.

“My dear friends on River Ridge, Vernon and Gretchen Spicer, suffered a house fire this morning. I have created this fundraiser to help them rebuild their lives,” is what the page states.
