Body recovered from Lake Travis

From Travis County Sheriff’s Office on May 9:

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on May 7, 2022, Travis County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol deputies and other agencies responded to 911 reports that a male in his 20s from New York, New York had gone underwater in Devil’s Cove and never resurfaced. After nearly an hour of rescue efforts, the incident transitioned to a recovery mission.

TCSO Lake Patrol deputies began sonar searches immediately. Recovery efforts were suspended later that evening. Early Sunday morning, May 8, 2022, deputies resumed searching via sonar and a remotely operated underwater camera system. A viable target was located via sonar and TCSO’s Dive Team began their operations at that location.

The body of a man was found in approximately 30 feet of water and recovered. He was not wearing a life jacket.

Out of respect for the family involved, and because this is not a criminal incident, TCSO will not disclose the identity of the decedent via press release.

TCSO reminds patrons of Lake Travis that the best way to ensure your safety on the lake, or any other body of water, is to wear a life jacket. In the event of an emergency on the water, follow these steps:
