Keertana Vemuri, a junior, is organizing a TEDxYouth event with other Vandegrift students.

“I was inspired to apply for the TEDx license last year. The sheer diversity of experience and life at Vandegrift made me want to bring our students a platform where we could share them. After sharing that with the rest of the organizational team, they’ve been instrumental in pushing this event forward,” Vemuri shared.

TEDxVandegriftHS’s theme this year is “Metamorphosis”, a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a completely different one, by natural or supernatural means.

After moving to Austin from Singapore in August, Vemuri was truly inspired by the diversity of experience and life at Vandegrift. Having been a TEDx speaker and organizer at her old school, she wanted to bring the platform to Vandegrift, as a way to give students a unique platform to inform, inspire and ignite change. Having shared her vision with the rest of the organizing committee, they were instrumental in pushing the event forward.

Led by Executive Producer Vemuri, Vipers Elly Johnson, Gabriella Probst, Kylie Pucong, Gal Garcia, Abby Hefele and Pearl Thapar have put together an event that showcases the best of VHS.

These Vipers will be speaking: Ankita Rajesh, Sarah Sheriff, Caitlin Garrett, Isabella Melchor, Sneha Pulickal and Jack Corlin.

The May 20th event is from 4-6 p.m. at Riverbend Church where “six unique, inspiring speakers talk about the changes they’ve faced in their everyday lives, and how they broke free with a new mindset and vision,” Vemuri shared.

The local Vandegrift event is under the youth category, meaning it features student speakers and is organized by students.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are collectively shaping our world. TEDx events are events under the TED license organized by a local community. They are sanctioned by TED and the talks will go up on the TEDx website.
