Melanie Palmer June 9, 1976 – August 12, 2023

Our beloved Melanie James Palmer passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at the age of 47, surrounded and embraced by her loving family.

Melanie’s presence was a radiant beacon that could light up any room she entered. With her quick wit, playful sarcasm, and boundless love, she brought joy into the lives of all who were fortunate to know her. When asked about her proudest achievement, she would invariably reply, “Being a mom.” Her heart overflowed with love and pride for her three remarkable children, who were the center of her world.

Born on June 9, 1976, in the warmth of Salt Lake City, Utah, Melanie was the precious daughter of Betty and Richard James. Her roots were deep in Utah, where she spent much of her life until 2012, when she embarked on a new chapter in Austin, Texas, alongside her beloved family.

She was married to Jeremy William Palmer on November 20, 1999, and divorced in 2020. Melanie leaves behind a legacy of love carried on by her cherished children: Landon James Palmer (22) (Hallie), Emma Grace Palmer (20), and Olivia Faith Palmer (16). She is also survived by her loving parents, Betty and Richard James; her devoted brothers, Robert (Susan), Mike (Stacy), Gary, Jason (Ilene), and Ryan; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. She also held the Garamore family close to her heart.

Melanie’s educational journey began in West Jordan, Utah, where she nurtured her passion for learning and continually expanded her knowledge. In the days leading up to her passing, Melanie dedicated her time as an Executive Assistant at Mobile Loaves & Fishes, a local nonprofit based in Austin, Texas. This organization extends assistance to those in need through acts of ministry, nourishment, and shelter. Within this role, Melanie’s heart overflowed with compassion, touching the lives of her colleagues and the individuals supported by the organization. Her commitment radiated warmth and care, embodying the very essence of unconditional love and kindness. Notably, Melanie’s tender spirituality was a cornerstone of her being, beautifully reflected in her deep connection with her faith and her embrace of her savior’s love.

A true friend to all she encountered, Melanie had an inner circle of friends, her “tribe,” who adored and cherished her. Her ability to see the best in people was like a gentle embrace that nurtured their spirits. Her giving nature and compassion knew no bounds.

Beyond her radiant personality, Melanie possessed a melodic gift – her beautiful singing voice. She graced family gatherings with her music, and the joy of karaoke nights with friends and family held a special place in her heart. Her playlist included the melodies of Jewel, P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, and more. A loyal fan of the show “Friends,” she found comfort in its timeless humor. Melanie’s love for vibrant colors like yellow and teal mirrored her vibrant spirit. Sunflowers and orchids, her favorite blooms, echoed her passion for life’s beauty.

Interment will be located at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, Utah at a later date. In honor of Melanie’s effervescent spirit, her family invites attendees to wear cheerful and bright colors that mirror her zest for life. Let us remember Melanie’s love, laughter, and legacy with hearts full of gratitude and joy.
