The 12th annual Get Out Girl Surf & Paddle Jam is this weekend celebrating its status as the largest all-female wake surf and paddle event in the United States. This year’s event will be Sept. 20–21 at Lake Austin’s Steiner Ranch Lake Club. It holds special significance as it honors the 10th anniversary of STAR Flight nurse and local resident Kristin McLain’s ultimate sacrifice in service to Travis County.
Kristin McLain – who lived by Lake Austin in the Steiner Ranch area
and who helped start Paddle Jam 12 years ago – dedicated her life to
service and healing. Her legacy continues through initiatives that center
mental and emotional restoration via the water.
McLain lost during a STAR Flight rescue mission in the Barton Creek
greenbelt on April 27, 2015. Her memory shores up the strength of
OGO’s mission. For twelve years her spirit has been at the heart of this
empowering weekend.
“Get Out Girl Surf & Paddle Jam isn’t just an event—it’s about com
munity, healing, and honoring the courageous among us,” said Cindy
Present, co-founder of Operation Get Out. She is also a long-time Lake
Austin resident. “We paddle, we surf, and we connect—empowering
All proceeds benefit OGO’s mission to provide nature- and water-based wellness programs benefitting female first responders, nurses,
