Sethi becomes the first Indian American elected to the Texas Legislature
Pooja Sethi has won election to the Texas House of Representatives in Texas House District 47, pledging to bring her experience as an attorney, mother, and legislative chief of staff to the work of representing families across western Travis County.
“I am deeply grateful to every voter who put their trust in me, every volunteer who knocked on a door or made a call, and every neighbor who shared their hopes for our community. I am excited to represent our district, and I know that earning this office is only the beginning of earning your trust.”
Sethi will become the first Indian American, first Hindu, and first Democratic AAPI woman elected to the Texas House of Representatives. “I do not take the significance of this moment lightly,” said Sethi. “I want to do more than just open this door. I want to make sure it stays open for the next generation of leaders who come from different backgrounds, and who have historically been told that there isn’t a place for them in politics. I intend to honor this milestone by working every day for the people of House District 47.”
Her legislative priorities will include fully funding public schools, improving access to mental health services, and securing reliable and affordable water and energy for growing Central Texas communities. Sethi supports increasing teacher pay, strengthening special education and school support services, and reforming the school finance recapture system.
Sethi said. “I am honored to have earned the trust of House District 47. I look forward to representing our constituents, listening to the voices of our neighbors, and working every day to build a stronger future for the families who call this district home.”
