A $650,000 feasibility study launched by the Texas Department of Transportation earlier this year will be taking a closer look at each section of RM 620 and discussing all possible improvement options with the community members who live and work along the congested roadway.

The study will focus on the 18.8-mile segment from SH 71W to US 183N by breaking the roadway into six sections and evaluating each section individually.

“Each area requires a different response,” said Bruce Byron, TxDOT project manager. “We’re trying to customize the options based on what’s most feasible for that area.” Continue reading →

Two Steiner Ranch residents have each hired attorneys to seek changes in the Steiner Ranch Homeowners Association, about which one said, “It has too much authority and not enough transparency.”

Peggi Patel and Lori O’Connell who both live in Lakewood Hills of Steiner are upset with the HOA for its approval of a pool house — possibly as large as 1,590-square-feet — on a lot where there is already a house and a pool.  “People add pools, cabanas, outdoor kitchens… This is like another house,” O’Connell said.

This pool house being built at the corner of Lakewood Hills Terrace and Arbor Lake Cove is causing concern among some of its neighbors who are challenging the way the Steiner Ranch HOA approves projects.

Affordable housing is on the minds of Four Points residents, as state officials will soon consider an application by Foundation Communities for construction of a local affordable housing project. The proposed 125-unit apartment complex is called Cardinal Point.

Council Member Sheri Gallo, District 10, and her office hosted a Town Hall Meeting on April 1 billed as a presentation on Affordable Housing: Dispelling the Myths. About 55 guests attended including residents from the local neighborhoods of River Place and The Preserve at Four Points, as well as guests from Long Canyon, Jester Estates, Oak Deer Park, and Anderson Mill.

River Place resident, Kelley Clark, spoke to audience members at the recent District 10 Town Hall Meeting on affordable housing. Clark said she asked Council Member Sheri Gallo for the meeting to make more information available to the public.

Greater Austin Allergy, Asthma & Immunology is now Sneeze Allergy & Cough Centers, and the local doctor-owners have expanded the practice beyond Austin to other Texas cities and to California.

Dr. Henry Legere III, of Long Canyon, founded the practice five years ago and recently changed its name because it has expanded beyond its Austin locations including River Place, Westlake, Oak Hill, and its newest office in Bee Cave at the Hill Country Galleria, to San Marcos and San Antonio and an office in Los Angeles.

There are now 14 Sneeze Centers served by 12 allergists, one nurse practitioner and two physician assistants. Patients of all ages are welcome. “The youngest patient I’ve seen was four-months-old and the oldest was 93,” said Dr. Eric Schultz.

Seasonal allergies are the most common complaint at the local clinic located in the Arise Medical Tower at 6611 River Place Blvd., Suite 305. Continue reading →
