Vandegrift Vipers shine at District 25-6A Championships

The Vandegrift High School swim and dive teams delivered a series of standout performances at the 2026 District 25-6A Championships, held on January 23. Backed by impressive individual efforts and relay success, the Vandegrift girls team captured the District Title, while the boys team earned a solid 5th place finish in a highly competitive field.

Girls team: District champions
The Vandegrift girls totaled 146 points, narrowly edging out Westwood for the top spot. The victory was highlighted by senior Alex Orris, who claimed gold in both the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:51.48) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (51.72).


Sophomore Wynne Bisque also led the charge, securing individual district titles in the 200 Yard IM (2:07.14) and the 100 Yard Backstroke (55.60). The Vipers’ depth was a key factor in their success, as the girls team swept the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay (1:36.55) and the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay (3:32.82).

Boys team: Top performers
The Vandegrift boys squad showed significant strength in both the sprint and technical events, finishing the meet with 59 points. Senior Nethaniel Mester powered to a district title in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 56.90 and added a 3rd place finish in the 100 Yard Freestyle (47.77).

The Vipers also found success in the distance and middle-distance races, with Will Orth taking 3rd in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:45.90) and 4th in the 100 Yard Freestyle (48.20). The boys 200 Yard Freestyle Relay and 400 Yard Freestyle Relay teams both climbed the podium with bronze-medal finishes.
