The Vandegrift High School girls swim and dive team delivered another strong performance at the UIL 6A State Swimming & Diving Championships, finishing seventh overall for the second consecutive year.
The meet concluded in thrilling fashion as the Lady Vipers captured silver in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of Liza Pozhenko, Sophia Nguyen, Wynne Bisque, and Alex Orris touched the wall in 3:26.97 — just one hundredth of a second behind the state champions.
Head Coach Felix Gonzalez praised the team’s effort.
“WOW, what a thrilling finish to the state championship for the girls’ team! Finishing 7th for the second year in a row is a fantastic achievement, and they really left it all in the pool. That 400 Free relay was absolutely epic, with the girls battling intensely to the very last touch and clinching a silver medal by just one hundredth of a second! The team worked hard for the whole season and definitely closed out their championship journey with a solid representation. We couldn’t be more proud of these Vipers, and can’t wait to see what the future looks like. Let’s GO Vipers!”
With a blend of senior leadership and emerging talent, Vandegrift once again proved itself among the state’s elite programs.
