Peggy Howard
August 28, 1953 – December 27, 2013

Margaret W. (Peggy) Jenkins Howard was taken from us on Friday, December 27, 2013. A beloved wife, mother, friend, and kindergarten teacher, Peggy was a gentle, loving, and giving soul.

She was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 28, 1953 to Harry and Margaret Jenkins, and attended public schools in Birmingham, Alabama, until she entered the University of Alabama, where she received bachelor and master degrees in education. Through the years Peggy also did further graduate work in art history at the University of Alabama and Columbia University in New York. Among the fondest memories of Peggy’s youth were the friendships she made and continued to maintain throughout her life, and her studies and travels abroad in Europe while at university.

The funeral for Peggy Howard and her son Cale Howard will be Saturday at Austin Baptist Church at 2 p.m.

Mr. Howard requested that the VHS Wind Ensemble provide the music at Cale and Mrs. Howard’s funeral. He let Jeremy Spicer, Vandegrift HS director of bands, know that “it would mean a great deal to him.”

“Our very best musicianship will be called upon… I can think of no better way to remember Cale and his mother than through sharing the beautiful gift of music,” Spicer stated to band students.

Several Four Points families are hosting international college students over the Christmas break as part of a program which places students nationally.

Christmas International House is a Christian ministry designed to offer hospitality to international students during the Christmas Holidays when their college dorms shut down across the country.

Ten international students pose atop Jack Mountain Ranch during the Christmas break. The students were hosted by families in Austin, four locally, during the time their college dorms were shut.

“It gives students an opportunity to visit in an American home and to become acquainted with different areas of the country,” said Maggie Tate, a local Four Points CIH coordinator who lives in Comanche Trail.

Four Points News obtained the Travis County affidavit for warrant of arrest and detention for Nicholas Michael Justin Wyzykowski, who is charged with 19 felony charges including manslaughter for the deaths of Peggy Howard and her son Cale.

The affidavit includes many details including these facts:

• That a witness to the accident helped Wyzykowski out of his pickup before he fled the scene and didn’t render aid to the victims in the two other vehicles.
• Officer Foster noticed that Wyzykowskis eyes were bloodshot and watery… his speech was slurred. Wyzykowski mumbled when he spoke and swayed and described his attitude as uncooperative, indifferent and cocky.
• The rate of speed reported by a witness —  between 80 and 100 miles per hour on FM 620 — matched the crash scene.

Austin Police Department has not yet released the booking photo of Nicholas Wyzykowski, who is charged with 19 felony charges including two counts of manslaughter and two counts of intoxication manslaughter after rear-ending Peggy Howard’s car on Friday night, killing her and later her son, Cale.

APD is holding a press conference today about the accident.

Reports say Wyzykowski, of the nearby Canyon Creek area, tried to flee the scene after hitting a second vehicle and that he was only wearing a towel. The investigating officer at the accident reported that Wyzykowski was “uncooperative, indifferent and cocky.” He told officers they could get his blood sample from an attorney in a few days.
