ABC’s “Christmas at Four Points”
Santa was not the only noteworthy Christmas figure to make an appearance at Austin Baptist Church’s “Christmas at Four Points”. The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman and Mrs. Claus were part of celebration Dec. 8 and 9. The event also included the ABC sanctuary choir and orchestra, dancing toy soldiers from Christian Youth Theater, and “The Little Drummer Boy” performed by the Vandegrift drumline. The Christmas story of Jesus with Mary, Joseph, angels, shepherds and wise men was the grand finale of the event.

Viper grad, UT student to ride from Austin to Alaska

Maria Krychniak — 2015 Vandegrift graduate and future 2019 University of Texas graduate from Steiner Ranch — plans to bike more than 4,000 miles from Austin to Anchorage, Ala. this coming summer as part of Texas 4000 for Cancer.
“This might seem like something crazy to do, but this cause is incredibly important to me,” Krychniak said.
“I have witnessed myself feel helpless and hopeless when it comes to comforting some of my best friends and family members left in cancer’s destructive wake,” she said.
2222 work begins on bypass project

The right of way is being cleared along RM 2222 in preparation for utilities to be moved in the first stages of the $23.6 million bypass project, according to Texas Department of Transportation.
Clearing of the right of way is visible along RM 2222 between Bonaventure Drive near 2222 Station to Ribelin Ranch Drive near Austin Baptist Church.
“Work to clear the right of way began on Dec. 3,” said Brad Wheelis, TxDOT spokesperson.
“Actual work on roadway should start mid to late January.”
Moving utilities will get underway in earnest in January.
Residents share comments on Steiner evacuation route plans at packed meeting with Travis County
David Voelkel, longtime resident of the Estates of Westridge, spoke up at the meeting on Dec. 11 where Travis County presented options for an evacuation route out of Steiner. Route F, the only permanent route option, took up the majority of the comment and question period. The vast majority of those at the meeting expressed they are in favor of the emergency only road but not a permanent road.

More than 150 people crowded into Towne Square Community Center on Dec. 11 as residents from Steiner Ranch and surrounding areas listened to Travis County’s presentation about the top three proposed evacuation routes that are now on the table for consideration. Community members asked questions and gave feedback after a presentation.
Route F — the only route that is also a permanent option — was presented on Dec. 5 as the county’s top choice at a meeting in Steiner with residents who live near the proposed route F path. Residents who use the Westridge fields and park were also at the meeting since F would greatly affect that area.
But after overwhelmingly negative feedback on Dec. 5 on the subject of a permanent road, the county is slowing down the process and pulled together the Dec. 11 meeting in short order in an effort to get more community feedback.
