Legacy International donates to LISD for OverDrive

During the Hill Country Education Foundation’s Giddy Up Gala last month, Legacy International’s President and CEO Philip Jalufka presented a $1,000 check to HCEF for Leander ISD’s virtual library called OverDrive.

“We are honored to help enhance our educational system and make the great schools in our community even better,” said Jalufka, who donated to OverDrive last year as well.

“LISD’s digital online library gives us an opportunity to make a direct benefit to our students as they take advantage of today’s technology while at the same time focusing on fundamentals like reading,” Jalufka said.

HCEF a preferred charity of Legacy International, which has been collaborating with education foundations for many years. The real estate consulting, sales and marketing firm is headquartered in Austin and serves the 55-plus communities including Tuscan Village and Rough Hollow in the Lake Travis area.

LISD libraries expanded services to include audiobooks and eBooks at the start of the 2012-2013 academic year. In addition, OverDrive extends 40,000 additional free titles through Project Gutenberg. Students can now download digital media anytime, anywhere to their PC, Mac, or mobile devices using the free app OverDrive Media Console for audiobooks and Adobe Digital Editions for eBooks.

Titles can be enjoyed immediately or transferred to a variety of devices, including iPad, Nook or Kindle. Titles automatically expire at the end of the two-week lending period; there are no late fees or loss of materials.

“I want to thank Legacy International and the Hill Country Education Foundation for this generous donation to LISD Libraries,” said Becky Calzada, LISD library coordinator. “We continue to chart increases in eBook usage… and this donation will allow us to purchase additional content to meet the growing demand of our patrons.”
