Bruce Gearing hired as Leander ISD Superintendent of Schools

The Leander ISD Board of Trustees hired Bruce Gearing, Ed.D. to lead its 43 schools as Superintendent of Schools at the Aug. 15 Board of Trustees special meeting.

Gearing’s first day with the district will be Sept. 3.

Leander ISD, a fast-growing district north of Austin, is adding more than 1,000 new students for the 2019–20 school year, totaling more than 41,000 across its roughly 200-square mile district.

“I am extremely excited to join the outstanding teachers, staff and community in Leander ISD,” Gearing said. “The district’s reputation for excellence and teaching the whole child is well known, and I am eager to listen, learn and contribute to those goals. I look forward to building relationships with our life changers throughout the year, celebrating our many successes, and learning along the way for the benefit of children.”

Gearing joins Leander ISD after serving Dripping Springs ISD as superintendent for seven years. He replaces Dan Troxell, Ph.D., who left July 31 after leading LISD for three years.

“Dr. Gearing brings an abundance of knowledge, experience and leadership to Leander ISD,” LISD Board President Trish Bode said. “We have seven distinct voices on the LISD Board, but we are united in his being the correct choice to lead our district into the future. We are thrilled to have him, and I know he shares the values and expectations of our community.”
