“Love of a Pig” advances to bi-district

Vandegrift students performed “Love of a Pig” in the UIL One-Act Play competition, winning first place at the district level.

Vandegrift theater students performed “Love of a Pig” in the UIL One-Act Play competition, winning several rounds in the highly competitive contest.

“This show makes you laugh, think, and cry. The cast is spectacular and I couldn’t be more proud of the commitment they have made to their characters and the hours of work they have to create such a beautiful show,” said Celeste Schneider, VHS Theatre director.

The synopsis of the play by Leslie Caveny is that Jenny, a young violinist, is pleased with her life except for when it comes to men. Having spent 3,345 nights alone of a possible 3,356 since puberty, she approaches scientifically the question “Why not me?” The play chronicles her pursuit of a brooding bass player she mistakenly assumes is Mr. Right.

“Love of a Pig” advanced to district after the Viper’s March 6 zone competition. Individual zone winners were Beth Eden for all star technician, Haley Sekel and Sarah Sheriff for honorable mention all star cast, Wesley Jackson and Emerson Hartman for all star cast, and overall best performer Riley Arispe.

“Love of a Pig” placed first at the district one-act play contest on March 9. Individual winners were all star technician Chris Miller, honorable mention all star cast Wesley Jackson, all star cast Riley Arispe and overall best performer Emerson Hartman.

During the bi-district competition on March 23, “Love of a Pig” placed fourth. Awards that night were honorable mention all star cast Sarah Sheriff and Max Hunter, all star cast Riley Arispe and all star technician Sophie Foerst.

“One of the UIL judges commented that ‘It was like a Disney ride I would get in line for over and over!’ He is absolutely correct,” Schneider said.

The community is invited to attend the public performance of “Love of a Pig” on Monday, April 3 at the VHS Performing Arts Center at 9500 McNeil Dr. Tickets are available at the door for a suggested donation of $10.
