Vandegrift High School Cheer took top awards at this year’s Universal Cheerleaders
Association camp June 1-4 in Grapevine, Texas. Held at Great Wolf Lodge, hundreds of
cheerleaders gathered to perfect routines, hone their skills, bond with their teammates
and compete for team and individual honors.
The Vandy varsity team won first place in Camp Routine and third place in
Sideline/Gameday.
All-American Award recipients were seniors Karis Angie, Avery Frollo, Avery Griffin,
Karson Hage, Harley Lombard, Maddie Maguregui and Maddie Shook.
Addie Aubrey, Harley Lombard, Ava Meisamy and Finley Spence received the
Pin-it-Forward Award for demonstrating exceptional leadership skills. Sophomore
Sloan Coleman won the camp-wide jump contest.
The JV team earned first place in Camp Routine and second place in
Sideline/Gameday.
The program was also awarded the Spirit Banana one day, and a spirit stick each
day.
“Our first UCA camp was unforgettable—that’s for sure!” coach Sydney Warnock
said. “There were definitely some learning curves due to switching from [National
Cheerleaders Association camp] to UCA, but the girls handled them beautifully.
That’s what I’m most proud of: their hard work and resilience.”
