Ten Vandegrift Viper band students are in the top 2.5% of band students throughout the state of Texas by being named a TMEA All-State Musician.
“Advancing to the TMEA 6A All-State Band is the top honor that a musician in the State of Texas can receive,” said Mike Howard, VHS director of bands. “It is remarkable that we have 10 all-state band members in the same year! I couldn’t be more proud of the work and excellence that these students have demonstrated through such a difficult audition process. They are truly ‘Defining the Standard’!”
These students rehearsed and performed with the TMEA All-State Bands February 12-13 at the Texas Music Educators Association State Convention in San Antonio.
Vandegrift has the most All-State students of all Leander ISD bands this year. Additionally 22 Vipers were TMEA Area E advancers – the most in the region – and 50 Vipers making TMEA Region 32 – the most in the region.
On January 8, 22 students performed at the TMEA Area E 6A Band Auditions. The audition consisted of all of Central Texas from San Antonio and Austin and all surrounding areas.
The TMEA Region 32 Clinic and Concert were held January 27-28.
“I am so proud of all of the students who auditioned,” Howard stated. “They spent lots of time over the holiday break working on their auditions and represented Vandegrift HS at the highest level!”
