Austin Police Department released more details Aug. 31 of the 55th fatal crash this year in Austin:

On Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at approximately 6:44 a.m., Austin police responded to multiple calls about a five-car incident in the 7600 block of FM 620. The preliminary investigation indicates that Jacob Byrd was attempting to make a left turn out of Tin Tara apartments located at 7655 FM 620 when he collided with a white, 2014 Jeep Cherokee that was northbound. Jacob Byrd was ejected from the blue, 2008 Honda Accord he was driving at which time three other eastbound vehicles became involved.

The driver of a white or silver SUV slammed on her brakes, presumably to avoid striking Mr. Byrd, when she was hit by a black, 2020 Acura Integra. The Integra was then rear ended by a silver, 2010 Toyota Tacoma.

The driver of the SUV, described as a White female, estimated to be in her mid-40s with short blonde or grey hair and a thin build, got out of the vehicle to check on the driver of the Integra before fleeing the scene. The SUV, pictured above, has damage to the backside.

Jacob Byrd was pronounced deceased on scene at 7:10 a.m.
